Micro-Needling with Growth Factors
Micro-Needling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT) is a new treatment to reduce the appearance of fine lines, acne scars and improve the skin’s overall appearance. In this procedure tiny needles are used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to produce collagen and elastin. The skin’s repair process results in a thicker dermis with the appearance of softer wrinkles. The procedure also allows topical gels, creams and serums to be absorbed more effectively into the skin.
First a thin layer of topical gel is applied to the skin. Then, in a single motion, the micro-needle pen is gently pressed against the skin in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered. The feeling is similar to light sandpaper against the skin. The speed of the needle tip together with the applied hydrating gel reduces discomfort. The procedure takes 15-30 minutes depending on the area treated.
After the treatment you will notice a bright redness to the skin. The healing time is 24 hours to 4 days. To speed up the healing process, follow your skincare specialist’s aftercare advice.
After the procedure you will notice an immediate “glow” in the skin, but visible changes develop over the course of several days and weeks. The number of treatments required depends on a number of factors. Deep wrinkles, stretch marks and acne scars may require 6-8 sessions at 6-week intervals, while some clients only require a single treatment. The general recommendation for most clients is a series of 2-3 treatments spaced about 6-8 weeks apart.
